Getting started with Immersive

Immersive is a language learning platform built around a simple idea: you learn a new language faster when you study material you actually care about, and when the languages you already know are used to help you rather than ignored.

Immersive currently works with six languages: Portuguese, Spanish, Catalan, Italian, French, and English. Because these languages share so much vocabulary and structure, Immersive often shows the same word or verb form across the languages you know, so you can lean on what is already familiar.

What you can do without an account

Some of Immersive’s reference material is open to everyone:

  • Browse verb conjugation tables for every supported language, with audio pronunciation and real example sentences. See Verbs.
  • Open any individual conjugation to read example sentences and hear it spoken.

What you can do with an account

Signing up unlocks the learning tools:

  • Decks & Reviews — build decks of words, sentences, verb conjugations, and numbers, then review them with spaced repetition that adapts to your memory. Review in Read, Write, Listen, and Speak modes, and export any deck to Anki.
  • Documents — import any text (paste it, upload a file, or photograph a page) and read it with tap-to-translate, audio, and inline reading aids. Or write your own texts and get corrections, rewrites, and coaching.
  • Verbs — alongside the public tables, signed-in learners see the same conjugation compared across the languages they know, and can turn those comparisons into review cards.
  • Grammar — reference notes organised by CEFR level (A1–C1), with exercises you can check as you read.
  • Vocabulary — the words and sentences you meet while studying, collected automatically and ready to be turned into decks.
  • Profile & Progress — where you stand in each skill, your study activity, peer evaluations, teacher access, and account settings.

Creating an account

  1. Choose Sign up and enter the language you speak and the language you want to learn.
  2. Create your account with your email address and a password, then confirm it via the email you receive.
  3. Confirm your language grid: mark the languages you speak, the language you are learning, and your current level (from A1, “I know a few words and phrases”, up to near-native). You also pick your display language here.

You can sign up with an invitation code from a friend; without one you may be placed on a waitlist. Everything is free during the beta.

Your language choices matter: Immersive uses the languages you know to tailor comparisons and hints throughout the app. You can change them at any time from Profile → Account.

Your first session

When you sign in, you land on the verb library, and the navigation gives you the whole app: Decks, Documents, Verbs, and Profile. On a phone these live in a tab bar at the bottom of the screen. See Dashboard for a tour.

A good first fifteen minutes:

  1. Open your first deck. The Decks page includes a Library of ready-made decks — the most common words in your target language. Copy one to My Decks and start a review. See Reviewing cards.
  2. Read something at your level. Open Documents and pick a text from the Library, or import something of your own. Tap any word or sentence to see its translation; tap again to hear it. See Reading documents.
  3. Check your Profile. The Progress tab shows your starting level and suggests first steps.

From then on, Immersive keeps track of what you study. Cards come due on a schedule tuned to your memory, words you translate collect in your Vocabulary, and your Profile fills with evidence of what you can do.
