Reviewing cards
A review session shows you the cards that are due, one at a time, full screen. Each answer feeds the schedule: cards you know well move further out, cards you miss come back soon. Reviews use spaced repetition that adapts to your memory (the FSRS schedule).
Starting a session
Open one of your decks. If cards are waiting, the deck page shows one big button, Start review with the number of cards, and a caption splitting that number into due and new cards. Press it, or press Space.
If nothing is due, the deck tells you when the next card comes due. When new cards remain, Study ahead introduces them early.
A deck with due cards also shows its Due count as a link on the Decks page, which starts the review directly.
To review a Library or public deck, copy it to My Decks first.
The four modes
Tabs at the top of the card switch the mode. Immersive remembers the mode you chose, for all your decks, and starts there next time.
- Read: read the prompt and recall the answer in your head, then press Show answer (or Space) and grade yourself. The number keys 1 to 4 choose a grade. Once the answer is on the card, its words work as in the reader: tap one for its translation and audio.
- Write: the card shows the translation; write the answer in the language you are learning. Tap gives you shuffled word tiles to put in order (placing the last word submits), or switch to Type and use the keyboard, then Submit (or Cmd+Enter / Ctrl+Enter).
- Listen: the card is spoken; write what you hear, with the same Tap and Type choice. If a card has no audio, it shows the text instead.
- Speak: read the prompt aloud. Record captures your voice and stops by itself after ten seconds. You can type what you said in Or type what you said; Immersive then compares it with the answer. If you leave it empty, play back Yours and the Reference and grade yourself.
Grading
Every review ends in one of four grades:
- Again: you did not recall it; the card returns very soon.
- Hard: you got there, with difficulty.
- Good: recalled with some effort.
- Easy: effortless; the card moves furthest out.
In Read mode you choose the grade. In Write, Listen, and Speak (when you typed what you said), Immersive compares your answer with the expected one and proposes a grade: the result shows how close you were (“92% match · graded Good”). Pick a different grade to override it. The review is saved when you choose a grade.
On a computer, Show intervals under the card adds to each grade button how long until the card returns; Hide intervals removes them. Immersive remembers your choice. Intervals are not shown on phones.
During the session
- A thin progress bar tracks the session.
- A line under the card counts what is left: due today, new, and learning.
- Once the answer is shown, Ask about this card opens the Coach with the card in view.
- The X at the top of the card returns to the deck.
Results
When the queue is finished you see Session complete: the cards reviewed, how many you recalled first try, and your focused effort time, then each card with when it comes back. Cards you graded Again are marked to revisit. Back to deck returns to the deck.
Daily limits
Each deck introduces at most 20 new cards a day. There is no limit on reviews of cards you have already started. When the deck reaches its new-card limit for the day, the session ends with a notice, and the remaining new cards wait for tomorrow. The limit cannot be changed.
Review history
On the Decks page, the clock opens your Review history: every session, newest first and grouped by day, with the deck, the mode, the number of cards, how many you recalled, and how long it took. When a session had cards graded Again or Hard, to revisit starts a short session with just those cards, in the same mode. Revisits are real reviews: they update the schedule like any other.
The daily review email
When cards are waiting, Immersive can email you each morning. See Navigation.
