Creating decks

Building a deck takes two steps: create the deck, then add cards to it. A deck reviews nothing until it has cards, so the workspace takes you straight from one to the other.

To create a deck

  1. Open Decks and choose Create a new deck (the + button).
  2. Name the deck in both languages — reviews can show either side, so give it a title in your target language and one in your own.
  3. Optionally pick a folder (or create a new one right there) and add tags. My Decks is the root — a folder is only needed if you want one; tags group decks across folders.
  4. Choose Save and add cards.

Adding cards

The second step of the workspace offers a card type switcher — Word, Sentence, Verb, Number — plus two bulk routes, Upload spreadsheet and From bookmarks.

Words

Type a word and, optionally, its translation — leave the translation blank and Immersive fills it in. Pressing Enter adds the card and clears the field for the next word, so you can enter a list quickly.

Sentences

Enter sentences one per line. Translations auto-fill; you can edit them in the card list afterwards.

Verbs

  1. Search for verbs, or browse the Essential (the first verbs a new learner needs), Common, and All tiers.
  2. Pick the tenses you want to practise — a Show only common tenses toggle keeps the list to the ones you will actually meet.
  3. Choose a card style: One card per person (je parle, tu parles… reviewed separately) or All persons on one card (the full tense table on a single card).

Immersive generates one card per person and tense (or per tense table) automatically.

Numbers

Enter numbers, comma-separated. Each number becomes a card that you will read, write, hear, or say in words.

Importing from a spreadsheet

Choose Upload spreadsheet to bulk-import word cards:

  1. Pick a CSV or XLSX file — columns are word and translation, and the translation is optional (missing ones auto-fill and are marked so you can glance over them). A template is available to download.
  2. Review the preview: rows already in the deck arrive unchecked so you do not create duplicates.
  3. Select the rows you want and choose Import cards.

Adding from bookmarks

From bookmarks lists the words and sentences you saved while reading and reviewing — the Saved items in your Vocabulary. Filter them (all, words, sentences), select the ones you want, and add them as cards. Importing copies; your saved items stay saved.

Example sentences on word cards

A word card can carry an example sentence. From the card row you can attach one three ways:

  • From your documents — sentences you have read that contain the word appear first.
  • Write your own example sentence.
  • Generate — Immersive writes one sentence at your level; regenerate if it does not fit.

Other ways decks get made

You do not always start from a blank deck:

  • Copy a Library or public deck to My Decks and it becomes yours to study. See Managing decks.
