Working with verbs

How to find a verb, read its conjugation table, listen to it, and use it across the languages you know.

Finding a verb

  1. Open Verbs from the navigation.
  2. Type in the search box to filter the list as you type.
  3. Turn on Show only common verbs to limit the list to high-frequency verbs — a good default while you are starting out.

Each verb is listed by its infinitive, with its translation in your language.

Reading a conjugation table

Open a verb to see its page:

  • The nominal forms (infinitive, participles, gerund) appear at the top.
  • Mood buttons (indicative, subjunctive, and so on) switch the table between moods.
  • Within a mood, conjugations are grouped by tense, one card per tense, with every person listed.

Tap the listen icon next to a form to hear it pronounced. If the audio has not been generated yet there may be a short delay the first time.

Exploring a single conjugation

Every form in the table is a link. Open one to get its own page:

  • The form, its verb, mood, and tense.
  • Example sentences using that exact form, with translations and audio.
  • Public decks that practise this verb, which you can open and copy to My Decks.

Across your languages

If you are signed in and know more than one of Immersive’s languages, a conjugation page also shows Across your languages: the same tense and person aligned across the languages you know, ordered so that neighbouring columns are the most similar. Seeing falo – hablo – parlo – parle in one row is often all it takes for a form to stick.

If a comparison is useful, choose Add comparison card — it becomes a review card in a dedicated comparisons deck, scheduled like any other card.

Practising verbs in decks

The Verbs section is a reference; practice happens in your decks. When you add cards to a deck you can pick verbs and tenses and choose between one card per person or the whole tense table on a single card. See Creating decks.
