Reading documents

The reader is built on one principle: you succeed by understanding the text, not by translating every word. Help is one tap away when you want it, and inline aids point out where you do not actually need it.

Bringing a text in

  1. Open Documents and choose Upload a document (or start from a blank page and paste).
  2. Give it a title and add the text — type it, paste it, or import a file: text, Markdown, PDF, or a photo of a page (up to 10 MB). Files are converted to text for you; check the result and save.
  3. Save. The document is processed into tappable words and sentences — imports may take a moment.

No text of your own handy? Open the Library for curated texts at a known level and word count.

Reading

Open a document to read it. The toolbar offers two views — Words and Sentences — which control what a tap selects.

  • Tap a word or sentence to see its translation in your language.
  • Tap again to hear it read aloud. Tapping elsewhere pauses the audio.
  • Every translation you look up is remembered in your Vocabulary.

The reading controls also let you adjust line spacing and paragraph indent, pick the reading voice for audio (your choice is remembered for that language), and print the document.

Reading aids

As you read, some words and sentences carry a subtle underline — the aid layer, tailored to the languages you know and your level:

  • Guessable words nudge you to try before revealing — the reveal shows the lookalike from a language you know, or the meaning in context.
  • Safe to skip marks words the gist survives without.
  • Listen first flags words whose sound is clearer than their spelling.
  • Seen earlier links a word back to its first appearance in the text.
  • Some word aids show the word’s equivalents across the six languages, side by side, with your languages highlighted.

Use the Aids control to switch between Full and Light density. Aids fade automatically as your level rises — beginners see many, advanced readers few.

When you reveal a guessable word, Immersive quietly creates a review card from that moment — the sentence with the word blanked out — in a per-language From reading deck, so your reading discoveries come back as reviews.

Read to me

Choose Read to me to listen while you read: each sentence is highlighted as it is spoken, and the reader scrolls along. You can pause and resume, jump by tapping a sentence, and switch between normal (1×) and slow (0.7×) speed.

Editing and history

You can edit a document’s text at any time, and delete documents you no longer need. Past versions are kept in the document’s History — one snapshot before each edit, import, or applied correction — where you can compare changes and Restore an earlier version.
